In this episode of BBTV, founder Franziska Iseli shares a productivity hack on time management and why you should structure your day according to your energy level!

(0:40) Morning vs. Night person

(2:00) Adjust accordingly

(2:40) How do you work best?

Franziska: Hi and welcome back to Basic Bananas TV! Today, I am coming to you live from Joshua Tree here in California.

What I want to share with you today is very relevant to what we‘re doing here and that is how to structure your day to be the most productive. So how can you manage your day and your hours in a day to be most productive, to get the most done?

Now different people have different energy patterns. So some of us are more morning people. So some of us are more productive in the mornings and then some of us are more productive in the nights. I recently met someone who said he is a total night person. So he gets everything done at night. That‘s just how his body works and how his energy flows. Then he said, “so I thought for 30 days I am going to do mornings and just challenge myself to become a morning person.” So he did for 30 days. He got up really early, get work done in the morning and he said after 30 days, to be honest, he fell back into his evening pattern.

So I believe there is no right or wrong when it comes to when you get most of your productive work done. It‘s just about finding out what exactly works for you. For me personally, I‘m a morning person. So I get most of my productive work done in the morning. Because I know that, I also tell my team not to book me for meetings before 12nn because before 12nn, I‘m in doing mode, I‘m in thinking, strategizing, getting things done on my own. That‘s when my brain is the fastest, the sharpest. For someone else, this might be afternoon or evening. You know someone said, “well, it‘s a genetic thing.” I don‘t even think it‘s a genetic thing because I have an older brother and he‘s definitely an evening person. So he gets most of his big work done in the night. So I don‘t think it‘s genetic, I think it‘s just really important to know when you get the most important work done the best way and then adjusting your day that way.

So for us here right now, we are here in Joshua Tree recording music. Luckily for us, actually, our producer here, our sound engineer wants to work in the afternoons and into the night, late into the night. That‘s how he works. It sorts of works for us here, too, because we get to work on the business in the morning. So on Basic Bananas and other companies we run. I get to work in the morning and then once afternoon hits, I get to play music and that‘s still, that‘s sort of an activity where I don‘t have to think super hard. So it‘s a perfect way to structure the day right now.

So for yourself, think how do you work best? What are your hours like? When do you have the most energy? Then try and adjust your day to get the most out of your every day.
