In this episode of BBTV, cofounder Christo Hall answers the common question we receive, “What do I say in my marketing?” Christo shares two brilliant ways that you can market yourself without having to talk about yourself!

(0:35) Get people talking

(0:40) Show them!

(1:14) Save the praise

(1:55) Demonstrate

Christo: So I want to answer a common question that we get in today‘s video tip. It is, “what do I say in my marketing?” We have people all the time saying to us asking the question, “what do I say?” What do I put in my marketing?

The tip that I want to share with you today is rather than say how good you are and push yourself out, look for others to say how good you are. So what you want to do is have other people talk about how good you are. Then another way we can promote ourselves as well is just show how good you are. So rather than bang on about ourselves and saying we have the greatest products, it‘s made out of this material and sources from this and da da da, or I‘m so fantastic because I have this and this qualification and this experience or our business is so amazing because we have a fleet of this many cars and this many team and all this stuff, instead, use how you do want to open most of your marketing is with some top wants of your market.

So you might say, are you looking for something of this or would you love this and then simply demonstrate like use others to show how good you are. It could be through asking for reviews, asking for testimonials. If somebody says something nice about you on social media, screen shot it, save it, file it. You can use it in marketing down the track. Or if you won a business award, you could put that stamp in your marketing or if you have an association membership or an accreditation of some kind, put those stamps in your marketing. You might have been featured in the media like had media mentions, put that in your marketing. So anywhere that someone else is saying you are alright, you look for that to put, push that message out through your marketing. It‘s always going to be more powerful than me just talking about how fantastic I am, myself.

The other way I mentioned is demonstrate. So by actually showing how good you are rather than just banging on about how good you are, but let‘s see. How could you do that? Maybe you could create videos, maybe you could create a podcast, maybe it‘s writing articles, but it‘s demonstration. Case studies can do this as well, you could show if you work with customers in say consulting or in health or something, you could break down what you did with one of your customers and the results that they achieved. Or you could simply just film quick videos and this could work for just about any video like you might be the fish shop off the road here, you could simply demonstrate your skills of filleting fish or making sashimi and how you do it and at the same time you get to show your skills plus you also get to show how fresh your fish are through the process. So it‘s going to be inviting for people, “oh well this guys look like they know what they are on about plus look at this great variety they have.” So it‘s a great way to demonstrate as well.

So allow others to talk about how good you are and also show us how good you are. Two fantastic approaches. Take this away, start collecting those external opinions from people and looking for ways to show.
