Social media can seem daunting to business owners but it‘s a viable tool that can help you get your customer‘s attention! In this BBTV tip, Christo shares exactly how to use social media as a marketing tool to bring traffic to your website and products.

1:16 Capture attention

1:25 Engage

1:30 Own real estate

2:30 Outtakes

Christo: Hey there! In today‘s tip, what I want to share is an approach to social media because there are so many different ways you can go with social media and there‘s so much confusion around social media of what to do and building your audience and should I build my audience? And if I build an audience, the people will like a page and are they really going to buy anything and so on? So the way I like to think social media is we have got to get people‘s attention on social media but we need to move them somewhere else.

So social media is great to show what‘s happening in your world, behind the scenes, maybe in your office or going on a trip. I just recently had a trip up the west coast of the USA with Erik, our Canadian business partner at Basic Bananas. So along the journey, we were sharing little business tips on the road, on the highway next to the coast, in all different interesting settings and we kind of went out partying and did all sorts of things. But every now and then we‘d share a little business tip and the cool thing with that is it‘s just interesting to watch because it‘s like your taking people on these journeys and it‘s like your taking people across this little adventure.

So imagine social media as a place to capture attention and to engage to some extent and then even further we move them then across to our own real estate, to your own website where you‘d engage them with your own content. So a blog and so on or you might have video tips or you might have a podcast or articles or content there or just simply to make a purchase. But imagine it‘s like capture attention, then you need to engage people further and then it‘s like you‘re owning the market, then you‘re owning the details, maybe you capture their details through an opt-in and then you decide when you promote what.

So always moving people across your own real estate because if you are only building your audience on social media which we see people doing a lot, we might build a massive following and get a lot of likes, if say Facebook or Instagram suddenly change their rules or change their algorithm as they have done it many times in the past, suddenly your post might not get any reach. Unless, of course, if you are paying for them and things like that. So building the following, move people across your own real estate then own them so you control what you promote and when you promote it.

Feel free to share any of your tips or tricks that you have around social media as well or any insights that have been stood up when you listened to this video and any thoughts or comments and hopefully we see you on the next video tip. Bye for now.

Some outtakes from the boys trip in San Francisco…

Christo: We‘re into this wicked Camaro sports car to impress Erik, our Canadian partner here. We‘re doing a road trip. How is it Erik?

Erik: It‘s not the right size.

——

Erik: I will show you guys what we are dealing with here. We‘re dealing with Christo.

Christo: Wow. Look at this. It‘s like a big.. big…

Erik: Big ass tree.

——
Erik: We‘re in a book store. We‘re debating what kind of books we want to take into the club with us and we decided that the gardening poetry book is currently our front runner. Not only does it have gardening, it‘s got poetry within the gardening. It‘s like deep, deep..

——
Erik: We‘re doing it Christo

Christo: Oh yeah, Golden Gate.

Erik: This is it. We are crossing the iconic bridge of dreams.

——
Erik: We‘re here to watch the master in his natural environment..
